Accessibility Enhancement Project for Polis Websites

Key Objectives  

The primary goal of the Accessibility Enhancement Project for Polis Websites is to improve the accessibility and compliance of PDF documents associated with the State of Aging, Polis, and SAVI websites. The specific objectives include:

1. Conducting training sessions for team members on addressing accessibility issues.

2. Identifying and rectifying specific issues within the PDFs to align with IU’s standards.

3. Proactively handling additional errors impacting accessibility.

4. Replacing problematic PDF versions on the designated websites.

Results 

Project initiated in November with team training sessions on addressing accessibility issues.

Currently focusing on identifying and fixing issues with the State of Aging website PDFs.

An iterative process ensures a methodical approach, addressing one website at a time (State of Aging, SAVI, Polis).

The team is actively working on resolution and anticipates gradual implementation across all three websites.

  Achievements:

Conducted a comprehensive UX design review on State of Aging, Polis, and SAVI websites, identifying and addressing key accessibility issues.

Hosted training sessions that integrated accessibility into UX design practices, ensuring the team is well-equipped for user-centric and accessible digital experiences.

Implemented UX design enhancements aligned with accessibility standards, such as WCAG, to create a seamless and accessible user journey.

Learnings from the team:

 Emphasized the importance of a user-centric mindset in UX design, extending beyond compliance to create delightful experiences for users of all abilities.

 Adopted an iterative design approach, allowing continuous improvement and refinement based on user feedback and evolving accessibility standards.

Strengthened collaboration between the design team and stakeholders, fostering an inclusive mindset throughout the design process.
